Company History

Alternative Lighting was started in August of 2000, as a full-service lighting showroom.  For 7 years, we recommended, sold and installed lighting of all styles to the public, interior designers and contractors.

Due to our extensive knowledge of lighting, interior design and electical contracting, we became known as an authority on specifying the right lighting for your home, backing each sale up with impeccable service.  Now after 7 years of dealing locally, we feel the need to service a larger area and to apply the same old-fashioned techniques we did in our showroom, on-line.

Our Staff

Diane has been with our company for more than 3 years and has extensive retail and sales experience selling lighting, domestic flooring and materials.  Diane also brings a wealth of knowledge with her.  She attended the prestigious Rhode Island School or Design.  She is a member of NKBA and is a Certified Lighting Specialist, issued from the American Lighting Association.  Although Diane is more than capable in her field, she has a thirst for more education and is working towards being a certified lighting consultant.

Gail is one of the owners and has been with the company since its inception.  Gail brings 25 years of experience in the electrical contracting field to the business, along with her knowledge of lighting and design.  Gail has a certificate in Advanced Decorative Design Ideas Applications.  Gail is also continuing her efforts in lighting education.

Jim is also one of the owners and Gail's husband.  He is a master electrician in Massachusetts and also holds a Lighting Specialists certificate.  Jim is the technical person who handles the commercial lighting aspects of the business.
